Comeback of the transportation trike
The first Tricyle was built in 1680 for a German paraplegic named Stephan Farflerr who was a watch-maker and lived near Nuremburg. Read more on this site. A steam tricycle was build around 1880 by George A. Long of Massachusetts The first electric tricyle was build in 1891 by the American A.L. Ryker. He has built a ‘William Morrison’ 6-passenger wagon.
The Netherlands also has a long history of making and using 3-wheel bikes for professional purposes. Amongs others Union and Gazelle made some revolutionary tricycles. Nearly every small business was using it and there were many job specific versions. Until 1960 they were broadly used. Since that time cars have replaced the bikes.
